Restructuring and modernization of data center, backup 208VAC to 480VAC generation system with electric substation at 480VAC.

The development of the solution included:

Description of the project

  • The project required the restructuring and modernization of the customer's data center, for it was built a new electrical substation in 480VAC in order to supply power to new services, as well as a system of generation of backup 208VAC to 480VAC.

  • 208VAC to 480VAC energy systems are backed by two generators of 1250kVA, one of them able to supply all the energy demand, so the activation of both is conditioned by a switch of automatic transfer which is capable of selecting one or another generator, depending on the hours of operation of each or the preference of ignition.

  • Rush at 480VAC Board, as well as boards of backup power 208VAC to 480VAC and 480VAC distribution boards have measurements of local electrical variables.

  • Picture of power substation was formed with breakers Schneider Electric and EMERSON - ASCO transfer switches integrated on cabinets Rittal and its system of Ri4Power power bars. In the case of the ASCO transfer switch, developed metalworking to mimic teams that were on those sets. Equipment for measuring electrical variables EMPRO and rush TRABTECH surge suppressor are manufactured by Phoenix Contact.

Description of the project

  • The requirement of the end customer, was the updating of the protection and control equipment; in order to operate one larger number of teams and allow greater loads, according to the company's growth plan; seeking the least impact to the company and its operators.

  • Picture of power substation was formed with Schneider Electric (Masterpact and NSX) along with starters and up to 100Hp Danfoss Drives, switches all of them integrated in cabinets Rittal with its system of Ri4Power power bars. System RiLine60, where integrated direct starters TeSys U by its versatility to install large amount of equipment without the use of plenty of space was used for low-power equipment.

  • The control system is governed by a Rockwell PLC which monitors several groups of remote input/output (FlexIO) through an Ethernet communication platform.

  • All equipment of the substation (suppressors of peaks, load, variators, starters, switches, switches UPS) are consulted and even maneuvered by the system controller.

  • The solution allows that the operator can perform the maneuvers of the teams and be close to the process but at a safe distance; through various HMI located in different places. The screens displays provides process visualization and detection of faults due to the historical record.

Description of the project

  • Picture of power substation was formed with Schneider Electric switches and ASCO transfer switches, integrated cabinets Rittal and its system of Ri4Power power bars. For ASCO transfer switches, was developed to mimic metalworking teams that were on those sets.

  • Control of selective secondary system is governed by a relay of protection GE multilin, which oversees both sides and carries out operations of transfer and retransfer. There is another identical redundant condition relay operated in parallel to ensure maximum reliability.

  • All equipment of the substation (rush switches, suppressors of peaks, load switches, transfer switches, UPS, protection relays) are consulted and even maneuvered by a supervisory system which registers their States and electrical variables such as voltage, current, power and energy, among many others, all this on a Wonderware platform with capacity to be managed and accessed distance.

  • The communication platform was supported by Phoenix Contact, from RS-485/Ethernet converters to high speed ethernet and power supplies communication switches.

Project generation to support operating and emergency plant - 1260 kVA power plant

Description of the projects

  • The need to present at the final customer, was the reduction of the energy consumption at least 10%, motivated to national savings plan

  • The solution: the installation of a Center with an installed capacity of 1250kVA and possibility of expansion to 2500kVA

  • The installation of a step-up transformer, 480V/13800V and smooth transition automatic transfer system (function "load sharing") in medium voltage.

  • The project included the modernisation of the existing system of filling, discharge and transfer of diesel fuel tanks that supplied fuel to the power plant of the customer.

  • In order to this is implemented a Board for starters of pumps and valves opening, as well as pipelines and circuits that feed them. which works automatically, planeandose the manual start strictly hardware and whose trial is due to 12 functions, being able to perform 4 valid combinations of functions.
